WOMEN OF WONDER (Small Group Study Notes)

June 11, 2019 | Jeana Pixler

On Mother’s Day, I preached a message called Women of Wonder, and I talked about a few things that I feel God is doing here at Freedom Life Church. I believe God is launching a movement of women who discover who they are in Christ and help others find out who they are.

I believe God is launching a movement of women of wonder, women who walk in radical faith, crazy joy and powerful love.

And I believe that God is launching a “mothering movement” where women, regardless of age, release the mothering spirit of God into the body of Christ and the world. This is a nurturing spirit that helps people become who the heavenly Father created them to be.

So, let me say again what God is doing: he is reshaping “ordinary” women into extraordinary women of wonder

As I put it on Mother’s Day, God is raising up a movement! He is raising up a movement, Women of Wonder, women who:

  • Grow older without growing cynical

  • Women who still laugh out loud

  • Women of imagination, dreaming with God for our lives, children, marriage

  • Women who share the joy of life with everyone around them

  • Women who reject the stiff, uptight rigidity of religion

  • Women who refuse to live critical and bitter

  • Women who refuse resentment against others who seem to have it all

  • Women who can celebrate the blessings of others (when we’re processing a situation...end it praying for that person)

  • Women who can release the life of God through their words:

  • Women who speak life and never death. Let’s be women who assess a situation in the world (politically or in the celebrity world) through a spiritual diagnostic test and ask God what is his original intent for them, for every situation, person or people group!

  • Women who know who they are! Because when you know who YOU are in Christ, you would never want to be anyone else!

God is also raising up a MOTHERING MOVEMENT, a movement of women who mother others, people other than their biological or adopted children. (Age has nothing to with this sort of mothering.)

These “Women of Wonder” know how to mother because they know the heavenly Father, and he releases his mothering grace through them. (There are numerous passages in the Bible about the “mothering” nature of God. In fact, the Holy Spirit reveals the mothering nature of God.)

And these Women of Wonder give birth to a “culture of mothering” where churches like Freedom Life cultivate the mothering spirit.

  • We have 60,000 thoughts a day

  • 90% if those are repeated the next day meaning we have habitual thought patterns

  • 80% of those thoughts are automated negative thinking

Our thoughts determine our actions>>our thoughts determine our moods>>our thoughts determine our destiny

Your life will follow your thoughts.

The battle is in the mind.

The enemy always tries to make us more aware of our problems than of the solutions we carry.” — Bill Johnson

All feelings are thought-driven.

  • Feelings are important: they help you locate the way you think.

  • Language is a locator of what you think. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

Proverbs 23:7 — “As a man thinks in his heart , so is he.”

Since childhood, we have often thought negative things about ourselves and God. God is determined to break off these lies from our mind so that we can live in the freedom for which we were destined.

Let me share the story of the “bougie” cheese.

2 Timothy 2:7 (The Passion Translation) — For God will never give you the spirit of fear, but the Holy Spirit who gives you mighty power, love, and self-control.

Proverbs 18:21 — Death and life are in the tongue, and those who love it and indulge it will it the fruit and bear the consequences of their words.

Proverbs 17:22 — A happy heart is good like medicine and a joyful mind causes healing, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.

We must think God’s thoughts after him. This is called “having the mind of Christ.” God’s thoughts fill you with faith, hope and victory. The enemy’s thoughts fill you with fear, hopelessness and defeat.

  • I don’t want to think one thought that my Heavenly Father doesn’t think about me.

  • I don’t want to say one word over me that the Father does not say over me. This is “partnering with the Word of God.”

  • Also, I do not want to THINK or SAY one thought or word over others—especially those closest to me, like my children!—that God does not think or say over them. I never want to make them doubt and have trouble seeing how God made them. I want to be the one to help them see how God made them and build them up. I am an ENCOURAGER

How do we combat negative thoughts?

  • By having gratitude and a thankful heart.

  • Worship. Worship is a weapon!

  • Declaring the promises of God. Speaking positive affirmations.

It’s like working out. The more you do it the stronger that muscle becomes.
